THE local chess community will help to determine the best talents among the age-group campaigners in a two-day tourney on Saturday and Sunday, October 21-22 at the Green Lane 2nd Floor of the Limketkai Mall in Cagayan de Oro City.
Events on tap for boys and girls are the 17-under, 15-under, 13-under, 11-under, and 9-under categories, featuring the finest age-group pawnpushers from Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro City.
The top two winners in each bracket, including the seeded ones, will be considered deserving enough for endorsement to represent the province in big chess events around the country.
“Pinaka-fair gyod nga adunay elimination process para mahatagan og fair chances ang tanan kay daghan na gyod mikusog sa mga bata in the locality tungod sa concerted effort pag promote sa chess unya daghan sab mga maayo nga trainers and coaches,” Golden Chess Friends founding head Benoni Wabe told Gold Star Daily.
Arbiter Lorenzo Cuizon, however, clarified that some players who have been listed earlier by certain local government units to compete in the coming Batang Pinoy National Championships in Manila may no longer join the qualifying tourney.
Last weekend, the beautiful town of Salay played host to the so-called Clash of the Rising Stars, pitting the Team Castle of Cagayan de Oro against the Team Alliance of Misamis Oriental.
Powered by the Batang Pinoy-bound Woman National Master Lila Alyssa Seriña, Ashley Nicole Paquinol, and the Getubig sisters (Lyn and LJ) of Tagoloan, the Team Castle easily waylaid the inexperienced Team Alliance.
“We expect the Ketkai event to be doubly exciting as more youngsters from Misamis Oriental will be participating unya naa sab moapil ang mga bright prospects sa Cantilado Chess Club of Barangay Canitoan,” said Team Alliance caretaker and arbiter Niño Querequere.
