DE LARA PARK, Cagayan de Oro City — Pickleball players in Misamis Oriental now have a more affordable place to play after the provincial government officially opened a new sports facility at the Capitol grounds.
On June 19, Misamis Oriental Governor Juliette Uy led the inauguration of the Unity Sports Facility and Dancing Fountain at De Lara Park, offering residents and visitors access to dedicated pickleball courts and recreational spaces.
The new venue features a high-quality playing surface, night lighting, an open-air lounge, Wi-Fi and charging stations, locker and changing rooms, refreshment areas, and meeting spaces for sports activities.
Uy said the facility was designed to give athletes, young people, government employees, and the public access to quality sports amenities while encouraging healthy lifestyles and community interaction.
“Walay away ha? Kani gihimo ni para sa tanan,” Uy said, stressing that the facility is open to everyone.
Users are expected to pay only a minimal fee ranging from P50 to P150, though rates have yet to be finalized. According to Uy, the goal is to make the fast-growing sport more accessible to residents who may find private sports clubs too expensive.
“Walay rason nga dili ta makagamit ani. Government-owned facility ni aron tanan maka-afford,” she added.
Uy also revealed plans to establish another pickleball venue once the rehabilitation of the Don Gregorio Pelaez Sports Center is completed.
The opening forms part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to promote sports development, wellness, and community engagement among Misamisnons.
