The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Misamis Oriental will conduct an investigation on Wednesday, December 17, regarding a reported irregularity in the shipment of quarry products from Barangay Pook, Talisayan town.
The inquiry stems from allegations that large stones and boulders were loaded onto a barge at a private wharf in Barangay Pook without proper permits on December 2.
Provincial Board Member Rommel C. Maslog stated that the SP Committee has invited representatives from relevant agencies to provide explanations. These include the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Coast Guard District Northern Mindanao (Talisayan Station), Talisayan Police, Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), CENRO-Gingoog, the Local Government Units of Medina and Talisayan, and local barangay councils.
Glen Senoc, Head of the Enforcement Section of DENR-CENRO Gingoog, confirmed the wharf lacks a foreshore lease permit.
Pook Barangay Chairwoman Felisa N. Lagutao expressed concern over the activity, citing damage to coral reefs and local fishermen's livelihoods, as well as the destruction of a community diving board.
"The barangay council was unaware of the operation. We want answers on why this happened and accountability from involved parties," Lagutao said.
The quarry products were reportedly destined for Cebu and Surigao.
The investigation aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding the shipment and ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory standards. Agencies are expected to explain their roles in the alleged unauthorized activities.
The SP emphasizes transparency and accountability in addressing community concerns over environmental impact and procedural violations.
