MISAMIS ORIENTAL bets dominated the 6th Barangay Bulua Inter-School Open Chess Tournament last Saturday at the City Mall, here.
Adriane Keith Ilar, 12, of El Salvador City won the high school division championship. While Paulo Efren Castino of Jasaan topped the elementary level for the Grade 4-6 category.
Sharing them with the spotlight are homegrown players Aleyah Francisco who stamped her class in the Grade 1-3 rivalry and Amiel Jayden Mabugnon who emerged as the top beginner in the said age bracket.
Ilar actually tied with Corpus Christi stalwart David Rey Ancheta and Gingoog City pride Jake Riddick Sabordo at five points, but favorable tiebreak results propelled the fast-learning Ilar to the secondary’s top spot.
It was a different route for Castino who led the elementary field with half a point with his five-point output to emerge as a solo leader for the crowning glory.
Occupying the second and third places are fellow 4.5-pointers Jan Calvin Abesamis of Opol and Janin Dhrey Querequere of Balingoan, also in Misamis Oriental.
Lyn Getubig and Tagoloan compatriots Sara Dalagan and LJ Getubig scored a similar 4.5 points to be adjudged as best lady performers in the high school division.
Meanwhile, Querequere (4.5 pts) and Churchille Davey Gallana (four pts) of Gingoog held their ground to become top female participants in the elementary category.
Arbiter Lorenzo Cuizon said Ilar, Castino, Querequere, and the Getubig sisters (Lyn and LJ) will represent Misamis Oriental in the 2022 Batang Pinoy National Championship to be held in Vigan, Ilocos Sur on December 17-22.
