TOP executive chess players in Mindanao get ready!
The Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental and the City of Cagayan de Oro jointly sponsored the Mindanao Leg of the 4th National Executive Chess Championship to be held on March 25 at the 2nd Floor, Green Lane of the Limketkai Mall in Cagayan de Oro City.
The day-long Fide-Rated Rapid tourney sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines will have the usual seven-round Swiss System format with a time control of 15 minutes plus a five-second increment.
It is organized by the Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental Chess Association (CMOCA) in partnership with the Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA).
CMOCA President Fr. Vic E. Arellano said only PECA members among the executive players from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao can participate in the much-awaited event with a P1,000 entry fee.
The deadline for submitting entries is March 23, as no on-site registration is allowed.
“We are very grateful to Misamis Oriental Governor Peter ‘Sr Pedro’ Unabia for giving the executive chess players around the country a chance to showcase their chess skills in the Mindanao Leg. The City of Cagayan de Oro through Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy has also committed to supporting our cause,” the 60-something Fr. Arellano, a competitive executive chess player himself, told Gold Star Daily.
The top three winners, Arellano said, will bring home P15,000, P10,000, and P7,000 cash each plus trophies.
The fourth and fifth placers will get P5,000 and P3,000, respectively. While the rest of the top-ten finishers will receive P1,000 apiece also with medals.
Special awards of P1,000 each plus medals will go to the Top Senior (60 and above), Top Lady, Top 1900 and Below, and Top Unrated participants.
