TOWN Mayor Donaton Chan of Medina in Misamis Oriental has agreed to the suggestion of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-10) for long-term solutions to the flood problems in this municipality.
Chan agreed after the town experienced a flash flood brought about by heavy rains on the morning of January 25 that left 18 families affected and four houses swept away.
He said the DPWH has suggested dredging up all the rivers here.
The dredging of the rivers is a big help to prevent flash floods and it is one of the long-term solutions to the town’s flooding problems, Chan said.
The expert from the DPWH-10also suggested that the local government should create a comprehensive drainage master plan.
Chan said Medina lacks a drainage system.
“Many commercial and residential buildings in this town (have) no proper drainage or canal,” he said.
However, the town’s administrator, Ariel Anghay opined that although a drainage master plan could be helpful, it needs a lot of studies that will cost a lot of money.
In another development, Chan called the attention of DPWH-10 to check the drainage system of a big company in this town if it is following the government standard or not.
