COTABATO CITY — Bangsamoro Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua clarified that the controversy involving the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) is “not about personalities,” but about alleged irregularities and accountability in government.
In a statement, Macacua said no one pressured or influenced him to take action against the ministry, stressing that his decision was guided by his commitment to moral governance and public accountability.
He said findings from investigations by the Commission on Audit and the Bangsamoro Parliament’s Blue Ribbon Committee allegedly pointed to questionable transactions and other concerns within MBHTE.
Macacua emphasized that his actions are anchored on his “Oath of Moral Governance” as Barmm chief minister, adding that he remains committed to addressing allegations of corruption and strengthening integrity in the regional government.
The chief minister also said the campaign for clean governance reflects the Bangsamoro struggle against injustice and abuse, describing it as part of their continuing mission of public service.
Macacua noted that officials had previously been removed from office over alleged mismanagement, citing past actions taken against personnel from the Ministry of Health.
He added that he underwent “deep reflection and prayer” before making his decision on the matter.
The BARMM leader further described the anti-corruption campaign as his “final jihad” against corruption, saying he is prepared to pursue reforms despite possible political divisions.
Macacua also reminded Barmm ministers and employees to uphold the principles of moral governance, warning that officials found liable for corruption or wrongdoing may face dismissal and possible charges in accordance with the law.
