MARAWI City formally honored media personality Bienvenido ‘Ben’ Tulfo as an “Honorable Son of Marawi” in a public ceremony held yesterday (September 25).
The city’s Sangguniang Panglungsod (City Council) passed Resolution No. 72-09 on September 9, officially conferring the title on Tulfo, who was born in Dansalan, Marawi City.
The ceremony took place at the City Hall gymnasium and was led by Marawi City Mayor Sultan Atty. Majul Gandamra.
Mayor Gandamra praised Tulfo for his contributions in media, charity work, and his efforts in advocating for the abused and marginalized.
“His journalistic achievements demonstrate his commitment, honesty, and courage,” Gandamra said, noting Tulfo’s strong connection to his birthplace.
In addition to the honorary title, Tulfo was also adopted as a brother of the Marawi Sultanate by Sultan Nasser Sampaco, head of the Marawi Sultanate League.
During his visit to Marawi, Tulfo toured the city’s Ground Zero, which still bears the scars of the 2017 siege.
He also announced his independent senatorial bid, vowing to address unresolved issues related to compensation for victims of the Marawi siege.
“The longer these structures remain in ruins, the more painful it is for the people,” Tulfo said, adding that rebuilding efforts need to focus on attracting new investments to revive the city’s economy.
He pointed out the importance of studying the situation thoroughly before making decisions about reconstruction.
