MARANAO leader and humanitarian advocate Abu Mujahid Maulana Mamutuk has again made headlines with a viral public post defending the Bangsamoro community and calling for unity amid religious and regional tensions.
Mamutuk, known for his grassroots work supporting displaced communities after the 2017 Marawi siege, posted a video that has since garnered 432 likes, 386 shares, and more than 14,000 views.
The video features Abdullah Goldiano Macapaar bin Sabbar — better known as Kumander Bravo — a prominent former commander of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and current member of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority Parliament.
In his post, Macapaar responded to a controversial statement allegedly made by Misamis Oriental Gov. Peter ‘Senyor Pedro’ Unabia, criticizing what he called divisive language.
“If you are a governor, a diplomatic person, you should not speak to your fellow human being that way,” Macapaar said in Bisaya. “It seems you intend to ignite conflict between Muslims and Christians in Misamis Oriental.”
He added that the Maranao people and Muslims in general have no political motives in the region, only the goal of peaceful livelihood.
Macapaar pointed out the shared history of Muslims across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, naming notable historical Muslim figures in each of the country’s main island groups.
He reminded viewers that Muslims have long lived peacefully and with a clear conscience in different parts of the Philippines.
“There is only one Philippines,” he said.
The video interview came after the multi-sectoral group One Bangsamoro Movement (1Bangsa) filed a verified intervention before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on April 10. The group is seeking the disqualification of reelectionist Unabia.
