PHILIPPINE boxing icon Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Pacquiao announced his intention to run for the Senate in the May 2025 elections under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
Pacquiao made the announcement at the Mindanao Civic Center gymnasium in Tubod, Lanao del Norte, during Governor Imelda Dimaporo’s State of the Province Address.
Serving as the keynote speaker, Pacquiao shared his plans to run for office and pledged additional support to the people of Lanao del Norte.
When asked about his potential lineup, Pacquiao briefly responded with “administration,” signaling his alignment with the current government.
Governor Dimaporo revealed that Pacquiao had previously been offered a cabinet secretary position, which he declined.
“After the election, he was offered a cabinet secretary position but declined because he plans to run in 2025 and resigning would be difficult,” Dimaporo said.
Dimaporo, who expressed unwavering loyalty to President Marcos, pledged her support for Pacquiao’s candidacy, along with her constituents.
This visit marks Pacquiao’s third trip to Lanao del Norte. Dimaporo also confirmed that Pacquiao is scheduled for a boxing match in Japan on July 28.
