A 47-year-old man died after he was allegedly stabbed 14 times by his neighbor during an altercation in Barangay Kauswagan, Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental on Monday night, July 13.
According to Misamis Oriental Provincial Police Office (MOPPO) Information Officer Police Captain Geraldine Botanas, the incident happened at around 8 p.m.
The victim was rushed to the Misamis Oriental Provincial Hospital in Balingasag but was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
Police investigation showed that the victim and the 38-year-old suspect, who both lived in the same village, had a long-standing dispute.
Witnesses told investigators that the victim was drinking with several neighbors when the suspect entered a nearby yard.
Their encounter allegedly turned into a heated argument.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with a 16-inch kitchen knife, inflicting 14 stab wounds on different parts of his body. The victim later died from his injuries.
At around 9:05 p.m., the suspect voluntarily surrendered to the authorities and is now under the custody of the Lagonglong Municipal Police Station while investigators prepare the appropriate criminal charges.
Police withheld the identities of the suspect, victim, and witnesses to protect the ongoing investigation and comply with privacy rules.
