THE former commercial airport in Lumbia has been transformed into a key military site in Mindanao with the Philippine Air Force’s (PAF) official opening of new billeting facilities at Lumbia Airbase.
The facilities, including Bachelor Officers’ Quarters 2 and Enlisted Personnel’s Quarters 1, will house more than 1,000 personnel of the 590th Air Base Group (ABG).
PAF Commanding Gen. Arthur M. Cordura led the blessing ceremony last Wednesday, July 9, which was attended by local officials including Cagayan de Oro Vice Mayor Jocelyn ‘Bebot’ Rodriguez and Court of Appeals Justice Jill Rose J. Lo.

Vice Mayor Rodriguez emphasized that the Air Force’s presence in Lumbia strengthens regional defense and enhances coordination between the military and local government.
She also acknowledged the responsibility of the men and women assigned to the unit, emphasizing their role in supporting national peace and order.
PAF officials said the move aims to boost the operational capacity and personnel welfare of the PAF in Northern Mindanao, supporting ongoing military operations in the region.
According to Cordura, the ceremony also reinforced camaraderie among officers and enlisted personnel based at Lumbia Airbase.
