DAMULOG, Bukidnon — A drinking session turned violent after a drunken remark allegedly triggered a 39-year-old man to hack another man in Purok 8, Sitio Lagasan, Barangay Sampagar on Sunday night, July 5.
Police said both the suspect and the 28-year-old victim were under the influence of liquor when the incident happened at around 8:50 p.m.
Initial investigation by the Damulog Municipal Police Station showed that the victim was drinking with neighbors outside the house of their purok president when the suspect passed by.
The victim allegedly shouted, "Taasa sa imong samurai oy!" ("Your samurai is so long!"), referring to the suspect's bladed weapon. The remark allegedly angered the suspect.
The suspect allegedly pulled out the bladed weapon tucked into his waist and repeatedly hacked the victim, inflicting four hack wounds on the left side of his body.
Residents rushed the victim to Bukidnon Provincial Hospital in Kibawe, where he is now in stable condition.
Responding police officers arrested the suspect at the scene and recovered the bladed weapon believed to have been used in the attack.
Police said the incident may have stemmed from a personal grudge, although the motive remains under investigation.
Bukidnon Police Provincial Office Director PCOL Oliver Sotto Navales urged the public to avoid confrontations, especially when drinking alcohol, and to immediately report violent incidents to authorities.
