PANDEMONIUM broke loose in the quiet Barangay Bonbon of Cagayan de Oro City this afternoon, September 16 when a lone gunman shot dead a public utility jeepney driver around 4 pm.
The victim, estimated to be just past 20 years old and identified only as a certain Dongkie from Mapa St. of the said barangay, succumbed to at least four bullet wounds pumped to the back of his head.
Driving a color blue Bonbon liner with only one passenger from Cogon market, the victim had to slow down upon reaching the intersection of Zone 4 just in front of the small Catholic church ― San Nicholas de Tolentino ― or a stone throw away from the seaside barangay’s covered court.
The chubby-looking perpetrator with a helmet on appeared as he was monitoring the driver’s activity, according to some witnesses in the area.
He just casually parked his Mio motorcycle near the church, hurriedly alighted, and approached the jeepney driver from the back where he repeatedly opened fire.
“Grabe ka kursunada. Paghuman og tira kalma ra nibaklay sakay balik sa iyang motorsiklo eskapo lahos nga dalan paingon sa Puntod road,” one bystander said.
“Kon droga man tingali nga kaso tingali dakpon lang kon ugaling gobyerno ang nibira. Kadto nga sitwasyon mora'g adunay pagdumot ang nihimo sa krimen,” another onlooker said.
All of them have agreed the suspect might be using a “silencer” as the gun bursts could be hardly heard.
Police investigators also had a hard time dealing with the crowd deliberately breaking the health protocol such as wearing face masks and social distancing.
“Dili malikayan nga modagsang ang mga usyoso kay sa dugay nga panahon karon pa nahitabo nga adunay gipusil dire sa Bonbon,” one elderly resident said.
