COUNCILOR Teodulfo Lao Jr. criticized Vice Mayor Caesar Ian Acenas and members of the city council majority over their failure to attend the flagaising rites at city hall yesterday morning. But here’s the catch: Lao was silent on the failure of councilors belonging to his own political group who were also a no-show, and just wouldn’t apply the same standards he imposed on Acenas and Co. on his partymates. Lao said Acenas “snubbed” the Monday flagaising rites at city hall despite the fact that he is the acting mayor. Mayor Oscar Moreno has been in Vancouver, Canada since July 31 on the invitation of a group of Cagayanons there who organized the “15th Tapok International.” Before he flew to Canada, he named Acenas as acting mayor. Lao said Acenas was expected to grace the Monday rites yesterday given that he was designated as acting mayor. He said Acenas’s partymates in the city council also did not come.“Normal na man nang ang mga konsihal nga sakop sa Padayon Pilipino dili motunga sa flag raising,” he said. Lao however opted to keep mum over the failure of his partymates––councilors Zaldy Ocon, Roger Abaday, Enrico Salcedo, and Lourdes Darimbang––to grace the Monday rites at city hall yesterday. Lao declined to comment. “Dili nako makasulti sa ilang kabahin, ngano nga wala sab sila motunga.” Meanwhile, Moreno is expected to return from Canada this week. The city hall delegation includes city budget officer Percy Salazar, city hall consultant Aileen San Juan and Hector San Juan, chief for Cagayan de Oro investment promotions, and Ma. Dulce Potenciano, human resource and education program focal person. Assistant city administrator Dionnie Gersana said city hall did not spend for Moreno and his group’s trip to Canada.(nitz arancon)
