CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Aboitiz InfraCapital Airports, the operator of Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental, has deployed additional security personnel and parking attendants following complaints from commuters about heavy traffic congestion at Northern Mindanao’s main gateway.
The move comes as the airport operator also implemented adjustments to parking rates at Laguindingan Airport, the second busiest airport in Mindanao.
Edilyth Maribojoc Calonge, external affairs manager of Aboitiz InfraCapital Airports, said a designated drop-off and pick-up area has been established to help improve traffic flow within the airport complex.
Calonge said additional security personnel and parking attendants have been assigned to assist incoming and outgoing vehicles and guide passengers in the terminal area.
“Terminal duty officers will also be on hand during peak hours,” Calonge said.
She added that more visible signage will be installed at drop-off and pick-up zones to help motorists navigate the area more efficiently and improve the overall passenger experience.
The measures followed complaints from commuters about congestion at the airport.
Titus Velez, a government employee, said in a Facebook post that it took him a long time to pick up his brother due to the heavy traffic inside the airport.
“I spent more than 15 minutes stuck in the exit queue. Most of my parking time was not parking—it was waiting to get out,” Velez said.
Velez described the traffic system as inefficient, adding that vehicle flow at the airport appeared poorly managed. Similar complaints were also raised by other commuters on social media.
Aboitiz InfraCapital Airports took over operations of Laguindingan Airport in April 2026, with plans to expand its passenger capacity from 1.6 million to 3.9 million annually and introduce upgrades such as terminal expansion, modern equipment installation, and infrastructure improvements.
The company also operates the Mactan-Cebu International Airport and the Bohol-Panglao International Airport.
Calonge said the updated parking rates at Laguindingan Airport, which took effect in February 2026, include a P25 entry fee for all vehicles and motorcycles. Buses are charged P500 for the first two hours and P500 for overnight (24-hour) parking.
For cars, public utility vehicles, and vans using Parking A near the terminal, the rate is P50 for the first two hours and P110 for the first 24 hours, while Terminal B parking costs P200 for the first 24 hours.
