PRESIDENTIAL candidate Senator Panfilo ‘Ping’ Lacson said that if he is not voted into office, he will retire peacefully and happily from politics and in public service with a clear conscience.
Yesterday, Lacson, together with his vice presidential candidate Senator Vicente ‘Tito’ Sotto and senatorial aspirant Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Piñol, and Dr. Margarita Padilla held a press conference in Mallberry Suites, here.
Questions from both national and local media dwelled on his rank, being in the lower spot of the surveys, which Lacson answered that he doesn’t want to focus on the survey but on what is on the ground.
He considered this as his last ‘hurrah,’ so he wanted to give his best together with his slate.
“There’s no substitute in (having a) clear conscience and will leave the government with a clear nose,” Lacson said.
Meanwhile, Piñol said that he does not believe that the Lacson-Sotto tandem has zero votes in Mindanao.
“It’s totally inaccurate. Ang daming police (na) active sa Mindanao, former policemen who are expected to go for Lacson,” said Piñol.
The same with Sotto, who according to Piñol, through the years his presence in the media and Senate, left a mark in the minds of the people.
The conference felt like a dramatic and parting scene after being asked how Sotto felt when his other allies and senatorial bets had been left out to dry.
For those who left him, he said he has to live with that, friendships, and personal relationships have nothing to do with politics.
“Mas masakit yong magkalaban, magkapatid, magkananay, hindi namin kalaban iniwan lang kami,” Sotto said.
However, Sotto still appealed to people to vote for him and his colleagues saying “The Philippines will be lucky,” if people will vote for them into office.
“Iwanan ka lang nang lahat wag lang ang panginoong dyos,” he added.
The official campaign period will end this Saturday.
