CAGAYAN de Oro Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy celebrated his birthday in a heartfelt way by visiting children battling cancer at LEUPAPO, a non-government organization that provides free temporary shelter for patients undergoing treatment in the city.
Instead of hosting a personal celebration, Uy chose to bring gifts and spend meaningful time with the young patients, demonstrating his compassion and commitment to public service.
“Gihigugma nako sila ug gusto nako nga makahatag ug paglaum ug gugma sa mga bata nga nag-antos,” Uy said in his native language.
Uy also donated to LEUPAPO to help the organization acquire land, expressing his support for its mission of offering hope and care to sick children and their families.
During a recent visit, Uy learned that the land LEUPAPO occupies was not owned by the group. On his birthday, he took action — purchasing the property to ensure the organization no longer has to worry about eviction.
“Pwede unta ko magpahulay o mag-celebrate sa lain nga paagi, apan para nako, walay mas malipayong paagi sa pagselebrar sa kinabuhi kundi ang pagpahimulos niini para sa uban,” Uy said.
Uy also expressed his gratitude to the parents, children, and staff of LEUPAPO.
“Sa akong pagtan-aw, ang gugma ug pag-atiman mao ang labing importante. Mao ni akong paagi sa pagpakita nga buot nako nga magpasalamat ug magtabang,” he said.
Uy emphasized that choosing to help others on his birthday was a personal decision driven by values he holds close.
“Ang tinuod nga kalipay mao ang paghatag ug gugma ug kalooy sa uban,” he said.
