ILIGAN City ― The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Lanao del Norte has imposed an 90-day preventive suspension on Kauswagan Mayor Rommel Arnado for alleged grave abuse of authority and grave misconduct.
Lawyer Eleuterio Obial Jr., a member of the SP, confirmed that the suspension stemmed from a complaint filed by Bagumbayan Barangay Chair Maria Luisa Ramos, who accused Arnado of suspending her without due process.
Ramos claimed she was penalized after allegedly interfering with the water delivery system in her barangay, which she said was not aligned with the protocols set by Arnado.

Following her suspension, Ramos brought her case to the provincial board, which resulted in the issuance of the suspension order against the mayor.
The suspension was supposed to take effect on December 27, 2024.
However, when the process server attempted to deliver the suspension order to Arnado’s office, several pieces of heavy equipment were reportedly blocking the entrance, delaying the delivery of the notice.
As of press time, it remains unclear whether the suspension order has been officially served or if Mayor Arnado has begun complying with the directive.
The SP said it will continue to monitor the situation to ensure compliance with its order.
