MISAMIS ORIENTAL — Governor Juliette Uy on Wednesday, June 3, unveiled plans to rehabilitate the province-owned Pelaez Sports Center at the Don Gregorio Pelaez Sports Complex, aiming to transform it into a modern and income-generating facility for the public.
Uy said the initial funding for the project will come from the payment made by A Brown Company for the purchase of the former Provincial Jail Facility.
According to the governor, the sale generated more than P200 million, which will serve as the starting fund for the rehabilitation. While the amount may not be enough to cover the entire project, she said it is important for the public to see that proceeds from the sale of Capitol-owned property are being invested in a valuable community project.

Aside from the construction of commercial rental spaces, Uy said the rehabilitation plan also includes the upgrading and restoration of the sports center's existing sports amenities to better serve athletes, students, and the general public.
"Ang atong halin atong ibuhos dinhi sa Sports Center para sya mabuhi, tanan makagamit gikan pobre paingon sa pyan, tanan taga Cagayan de Oro, taga Misor makagamit ani," assured the provincial governor.
Uy also presented to members of the media the proposed design of the new Pelaez Sports Center, which includes rental spaces on the ground floor to generate income for the facility.
"Atong ipa rental, mo kita sya, naa tay Return of Investment (ROI)," Uy said.
The governor said construction is expected to begin in July.
The rehabilitation project is expected to improve both the facility's revenue-generating capability and the quality of sports infrastructure available to residents of Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro.
The purchase of the former Provincial Jail Facility by A Brown Company was approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan during the previous administration.
