A man is seeking justice for his Indian friend who was fatally decapitated after being struck by a power cable along Agay-ayan Highway on the evening of December 24.
The victim, a motorcycle backrider, was following a wing van truck en route to Butuan when the truck reportedly snagged the cable, according to Police Major Joann Navarro, spokesperson for the Philippine National Police (PNP) Region 10.
Major Navarro said poor visibility caused by heavy rain and darkness likely contributed to the incident.
The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was described as approximately 5’11” tall and around 50 years old. Witness accounts revealed the impact of the cable was severe enough to decapitate the man, despite him wearing a helmet.
Edward, a friend of the victim, criticized the Misamis Oriental II Rural Electric Service Cooperative (Moresco II) for alleged negligence. He claimed that lapses in maintenance and monitoring may have contributed to the tragedy.
“There should be accountability,” Edward said, explaining that he owed the victim money for supplies in his sari-sari store in Gingoog.
Leo Pollentes, a member of Moresco II’s board of directors, assured the public that an investigation is underway to determine if the cooperative’s oversight played a role. Meanwhile, Major Navarro confirmed that Moresco II management has initiated discussions with the victim's relatives to address the matter.
The case remains under investigation as authorities work to establish full details and responsibility for the fatal incident.
