A six-year-old girl was rescued, and her captor killed, following a tense hostage situation in Barangay Sabala Manao Proper on Sunday morning, December 21.
A 28-year-old man, whose identity remains unknown, was shot by authorities after he took the child hostage and held a knife to her neck.
According to the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), the suspect entered the victim’s home and seized the child.
Police Senior Master Sergeant Sohair Solaiman, who happened to be jogging in the vicinity, responded immediately to the commotion. Solaiman attempted to negotiate with the suspect to de-escalate the situation.
However, the suspect became aggressive and began harming the child. This forced officers to open fire to save the victim.
The suspect sustained gunshot wounds to the left cheek and body. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The young victim suffered cuts on her face and arm. She is currently safe and receiving treatment at Amai Pakpak Medical Center.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify the suspect, as local residents have stated they do not recognize the man.
