IN a structured workplace, having your piece of heaven may seem unattainable. Still, one finds his happiness in whatever form or means.
Corporate people rarely experience sunset on weekdays. Most of us leave for work early morning and go home after six in the evening. There are also those on the graveyard shift who live a nocturnal life. They sleep in the morning and work at night.
During the Pandemic, work schedules have shortened hours. During that time, social media feeds were full of photos of people taking selfies with the sunset in the background. Lucky for some who even have selfie photos with the sun still shining brightly. The silver lining found amidst the health crisis.
Long weekends or holidays are big deals for most of us, except for that unplanned holiday that shook the corporate world. No choice but to open.
Long weekends mean road trips, out-of-town travels, general cleaning, spring cleaning of closets, movie or series marathons, catching up on reading, and more.
When you see a deserted pantry at lunchtime, it must be payday or bonus day. People either eat out or do a potluck for some well-deserved buffet.
Some decorate their corner in the workplace to make work seem like not work at all. Some change their keyboard and mouse. And some put a vase, a small mirror (or a big mirror like my good friend, Liza, who starts her day with a selfie), or a small photo album on their desk.
Company-paid activities like summer outings and Christmas parties are the most awaited events.
Summer outings are fun. Family members join the event, and everybody interacts in a relaxed environment. Christmas parties are festive events where you wear costumes or play dress up and finally be your alter ego. These are usually showcasing talents in dancing and singing. If you're lucky, you even have your company band and dancers.
These are fragments of happiness at work that makes work less stressful. Stress is a given in every workplace, and only you can find happiness despite it all. Appreciate it and be grateful.
How about you? How do you keep yourself happy at work?
