CAGAYAN de Oro City — Gusa Regional Science High School–X (GRSHS-X) has assured students, parents, and the public that a reported sexual harassment complaint within its school community is undergoing a formal investigation.

 School officials confirmed that the case is being strictly handled in accordance with Department of Education (DepEd) procedures.

The issue gained public attention recently following social media posts and online discussions alleging that a student had been sexually harassed, which led to public questioning over the school's handling of the complaint.

The incident sparked widespread calls from students and netizens for accountability and transparency, prompting separate official statements from both the school administration and the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) on their respective Facebook pages.

Strict adherence to due process

Contrary to claims circulating online, both the school administration and the SSLG stressed that the complaint is being treated as a serious matter rather than a minor offense.

 Administration Statement (Issued July 12, 2026):

 The school administration clarified that the investigation is being conducted under DepEd Order No. 006, s. 2026.

 The process is being guided by DepEd personnel and legal counsel to ensure due process, objectivity, and a fair resolution.

 SSLG Statement (Issued July 15, 2026):

 The student government confirmed that statements from the involved parties have already been gathered, the concerned parents have been notified, and the available evidence is currently being evaluated.

 The SSLG added that severe disciplinary sanctions—including expulsion, if warranted under existing rules—remain on the table, but emphasized that no definitive conclusions will be made until the investigation is fully completed.

 Clarification on online freedom of expression

The SSLG also categorically refuted online rumors claiming that students would automatically face disciplinary action simply for reacting to or commenting on social media posts related to the case.

 "The school's immediate priority is resolving the core sexual harassment complaint," the SSLG clarified.

 "Concerns involving online conduct will be addressed separately through the proper administrative processes only after the primary investigation concludes."

 A call for privacy and fairness

 School officials have appealed to the public and the student body to refrain from spreading unverified information and to respect the privacy rights of all individuals involved.

 They reiterated that official updates will only be released through authorized DepEd channels.

 Both the school administration and the SSLG urged the community to allow due process to take its course, emphasizing that the final resolution will be based strictly on facts, evidence, and fairness.
