FOR possessing an undocumented firearm, a construction worker is now in jail. Police manning a checkpoint intercepted him.
Iligan City Police Office (ICPO) Director Dominador Estrada identified the suspect as Edwin Agan, 34, married, and a resident of Sitio Pindulonan, Barangay Maria Cristina, Baloi, Lanao del Norte.
Confiscated from the suspect were a caliber .45 pistol, a steel magazine with nine .45 live bullets, and a sling bag.
His driven motorcycle, a Honda XRM without a plate number and pertinent papers, was also impounded.
The suspect also failed to present any firearm license and a driver’s license. The motorcycle's registration is already expired.
Estrada said the arrest happened when the Iligan City Police Station 2 led by Police Major Marvin Cajegas conducted the Commission on Elections’ checkpoint under the ‘One Time Big Time’ operation along the national road at Sitio Nonucan of the said barangay from 3 pm to 8 pm yesterday.
It was learned that the duty policemen flagged down the suspect for a routine inspection. When asked for any pertinent documents, the suspect opened his sling bag a handgun was found.
Estrada reminded the public that during the election period, the permit to carry firearms outside of residence for civilians is suspended. No one is allowed to carry firearms except authorized by the commission on the election.
