Iligan City — The construction of the “modern” public market at Pala-o, this city has been scheduled this month.
Yesterday, Vice Mayor Jemar Vera Cruz told reporters that the ground-breaking has been is scheduled on Feb. 20.
In its regular session this week, the Sangguniang Panlungsod gave City Mayor Celso Regencia the authority to enter into a contract with the winning bidder on the public market. Some 11 council members voted “yes.”
However, one member, abstained. Councilor Simplicio Larrazabal, III said they have to meet and get to know the contractor first.
Vera Cruz said that if they have to do that, construction on it would be delayed further.
Last year, lawyer Dexter Sumaoy, chair of the Bids and Awards Committee said construction on the project will begin within that year of 2019.
To note, said project touted as the “flagship” project of the present administration costs P590 million.
Initially, it was envisioned to have underground parking space but later, officials said, there would be no such parking spaces anymore.
