WHOEVER among the first batch of champions to repeat as one?
This will be the challenge to face by the previous winners when the GCF VI Students Fide Rated Chess Championships gets underway today on the fifth floor of the SM CDO Downtown Premiere's Play Park.
Over 200 players have been listed to wage war across the 64-square-board in this rapid tourney sponsored by the Goldcrest Marketing Corporation through its corporate head National Master Roly Tan, among the godfathers for local chess development in Northern Mindanao.
“Very exciting ang rivalry sa atong monthly chess tourney kay galisod ang mga previous champions nga mo-champion pag usab kay ga-improve sab ang uban,” said Benoni Wabe of the organizing Golden Chess Friends.
Wabe was referring to the Canino brothers, Romeo and Ronald, Adrian Othniel Yulo, Christian Aquino, Lila Alyssa Seriña, Ashley Aya Nicole Paquinol, Zhaoyu Capilitan, Keith Adriane Ilar and Cassey Miguel Tabamo, among others, who all struggled in their quest to rule the prestigious event for the second time around.
