GINGOOG City — A quiet struggle with mental health inside a family home ended in an unimaginable tragedy Thursday afternoon, Dec. 11, when a father allegedly bludgeoned his two sons to death.
Police identified the suspect as Lunesito Dapiroc Tutor, 40, a resident of Purok 2, Barangay 17, this city. Both the suspect and his victims were documented to be suffering from mental health conditions.
The victims, Adrian Jay B. Tutor, 20, and Arnold Washington B. Tutor, 21, were classified as Persons With Disabilities (PWD) due to their conditions. They were rushed to the Misamis Oriental Provincial Hospital (MOPH) but were pronounced dead on arrival due to severe head injuries.
Gingoog City Police Chief Lt. Col. Dennis de los Santos confirmed that Lunesito, who initially fled the scene, is now in police custody.
“The hammer used in the attack was recovered. We’re investigating the circumstances, but the family’s pain is clear,” de los Santos said.
A reclusive struggle
The incident has left the neighborhood in shock, shedding light on the family’s isolated battle. Neighbors described the Tutors as reclusive, grappling privately with complex needs that few outsiders understood.
“They kept to themselves. We never knew things were this bad,” said Fernando Casiño, a neighbor.
The tragedy occurred while the victims’ mother, Naome B. Tutor, was away from the residence. Upon her return, she was met with the devastating scene.
“She’s devastated. The community is rallying support for funeral costs,” a local official said.
Call for compassion
While Lunesito Tutor remains detained pending the filing of charges, local authorities are using the grim incident to highlight the importance of mental health awareness.
“We urge anyone struggling to seek help. This tragedy underscores the need for compassion and intervention,” de los Santos added.
