THE Schools Division Superintendent of Gingoog, Edgardo V. Abanil, is calling on the public to report any illegal activities, such as extortion or payments for transfers, promotions, and appointments within the division.
In a statement posted on his Facebook account and confirmed during an interview yesterday, August 12, Abanil warned that no one is authorized to collect money for these purposes. He said anyone caught will face administrative, civil, and criminal charges.
“These acts are illegal, immoral, and a betrayal of public trust,” Abanil said.
The call was made in response to Department of Education Secretary Sonny Angara’s directive for zero tolerance against illegal activities nationwide. Abanil said that the public call was an effort to protect the profession.
Former DepEd Executive Director Jose Ma. Go Pelaez commented on the Facebook post, “No doubt about it. I stand with DepEd Gingoog City leaders.”
“Naningkamot ra man pud kita pag trabaho sa gihatag sa Ginoo nga katungdanan,” Abanil said, emphasizing his commitment to his duties.
He urged everyone to “Report. Speak up. Protect our profession. Whistleblowers will be protected.”
To file a formal complaint, individuals must submit an affidavit.
Abanil pointed out the importance of a sworn statement over rumor-mongering, citing a recent case in Palawan where allegations were made but no charges were filed due to a lack of formal complaints.
“In DepEd Gingoog City, integrity is non-negotiable,” he said, adding that the division has not yet received any complaints.
