RESIDENTS of Gingoog City are calling on local authorities to address safety hazards at Rizal Park, citing dangers to children and other visitors.

Concerns include a portion of the plaza’s pathway that is fenced with bamboo and tied with barbed wire, which residents say poses a risk to children playing in the area.

Residents also noted what they described as the dangerous placement of electrical wiring wrapped around tree trunks and on unfinished light poles.

The main power control switch for the plaza was also observed to be open and unlocked.

Acting City Tourism Officer Ramon Rodel Reyes said he would take action to address the issues.

A City Electrical Forman, Jonard Taño, promised to remove the wiring from the trees but said the wires had been condemned and were not live.

However, a recent inspection found that some trees were lit, indicating the presence of electricity on at least some of the wiring.
