THE local public utility vehicle drivers in Gingoog City have been demanding for a P15 minimum fare from the current P9 peso minimum said City Councilor Jerome Mercado in a phone interview yesterday.
Mercado, chair of the city’s Committee on Transportation, said will call for a public hearing anytime next week to tackle the issue and he will invite the public transport group and the public at large.
He will also invite personnel from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-10 to shed light on why the fare matrix of multicabs operating in Gingoog and Medina in the eastern part of Misamis Oriental.
Mercado said he received the request from the local drivers here for the increase of the minimum fare matrix in the city due to the series of fuel price hikes.
Mercado said he scheduled the public hearing anytime next week so that all parties will be heard as a basis also for any amendments to the city ordinance on the fare matrix of motorelas, sidecars, and trisikads operating in the city.
In his personal opinion, Mercado said he is favoring the minimum increase but not the P6-fare hike
“Pabor ko sa increase peru dako ra sab seguro na ang P15 nga minimum. Looy pud atong mga estudyante ani mga senior citizen ug uban pa nga naglisod sa panginabuhian,” Mercado said adding that he is amenable to a P3-increase.
He said the public hearing will be called as requested also by Mayor Erick G. Cañosa who wants an immediate increase in the fare matrix of the city.
