GINGOOG City Councilor Dr. Jerome Magan, Chair of the Committee on Health, assured the public that water supplied by the Gingoog City Water District (GCWD) is safe to drink, despite concerns raised about a filter stained with mud.
After receiving a verbal complaint about the issue, Magan said he promptly contacted the water district to investigate. The water district assured him that the water remains safe for consumption.
A resident, identified only as ‘Marlon’ for privacy reasons, reported discovering a filter clogged with mud, which raised concerns about the water’s safety.
Engr. Jerome Loquero, production head of the GCWD, said it was unclear where the filter came from but reassured the public that there was no cause for alarm.
He explained that it is common for filters to darken, especially in areas with water sources high in iron content, such as the Panggasihan Pump Station in Barangay Panggasihan.
“The staining of the filter is a normal occurrence,” Loquero said, adding that the water remains safe to drink.
