TUBERCULOSIS cases are on the rise in Gingoog City, according to City Councilor Jerome Magan, who chairs the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s Committee on Health.
While an official count was not available at press time, Magan, a physician, said he has observed an increase in cases at his own practice and other local hospitals.
Magan urged anyone with symptoms to visit the City Health Office for a checkup, which may include an X-ray or lab test.
He pointed out that TB treatment is free, and urged the public to get tested and seek treatment to prevent infecting others. He also reminded those already on medication to complete the full six-month course.
In related health news, Magan noted that dengue cases continue to increase but are not as alarming as the rise in TB infections.
He also advised residents to regularly clean their surroundings to prevent mosquito proliferation.
Magan also cautioned against ignoring persistent coughs, which are common during the “ber” months from September to December, as they could lead to pneumonia if left untreated.
