AROUND P30,000 in total cash prizes will be up for grabs in the Golden Chess Friends' monthly tournament that will be back this coming Saturday, April 8 at the Centrio Ayala Mall in Cagayan de Oro City.
The day-long rapid tourney expects the participation of over 100 top chess talents from the private and public schools in the region who are active members of the National Chess Federation in the Philippines.
“What has been interesting for our April month edition is the little adjustment that we made to make the competition more exciting, though makadugang gyod kami sa premyo,” the GCF's founding head Ben Wabe told Gold Star Daily.

Wabe was referring to the innovation that will retain the elementary level and the high school category to be disputed solely by the secondary players, and let the college participants compete instead in the Open division along with the veterans.
“Maglisod ang high school kon isagol sa college. Pero ang mga college students makaaway sa Open division, unya ubay-ubay kini sila,” Wabe said, citing the Canino brothers (Romeo and Ronald), Adrian Othniel Yulo and the streaking Christian James Aquino among the tertiary bets who can give their much older counterparts a run for the top honors.
The entry fee is pegged at P300 each.
Registration in-charge Naphtali Wabe said the deadline for the submission of online entries will be on Wednesday, April 5.
