Iligan City — A village chairman here has pointed to a gasoline station as the one responsible for the fire that razed eight houses and rendered nine families homeless Monday, last week
In a statement to reporters, Anthony Pacana, Poblacion barangay chairman said the Bureau of Fire Protection should look into this.
However, he did not identify the gasoline station and there are two gasoline stations near the area where the fire occurred.
The stations, to note, are that of Petron and a station owned by the Iligan Light and Power Employees Cooperative.
Pacana added that this station is near the Baslayan Creek at Poblacion and maybe, because of the rains, the water level there becomes elevated. With the used oil coming from said gasoline station, maybe when there’s a spark from something, it can easily catch fire and these houses are near the creek, he said, referring to the informal settlers in the area, Pacana told reporters.
“I will have this station be investigated by the BFP,” he said. He added he has also noticed the oil in the waters in the area and maybe that area has “80% oil and only 20% water.”
To recall, eight houses near the creek were razed to the ground because of a fire last Monday evening.
The fire, which occurred at 7:27 pm was put under control two hours later by the central fire station here.
