More than 44,000 families affected by severe flooding in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) are receiving relief assistance as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the immediate delivery of aid to hard-hit communities.
The President directed government agencies to closely monitor the flooding and ensure that food, emergency supplies, and other assistance quickly reach affected residents.
"The President is closely monitoring the situation in BARMM," Special Assistant to the President Anton Lagdameo Jr. said, adding that agencies are continuously assessing conditions on the ground to respond to urgent needs.
As of Friday, the Bangsamoro Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence (Bangsamoro READi) reported that flooding has affected 158 barangays in Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Tawi-Tawi, impacting about 220,000 individuals.
Nearly 2,900 families are staying in 19 evacuation centers.
Sultan sa Barongis in Maguindanao del Sur recorded the highest number of affected families, while Datu Odin Sinsuat remained the hardest-hit municipality in Maguindanao del Norte.
Rescue operations continue with personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, and Bureau of Fire Protection. Several local governments have also suspended classes due to flooding.
BARMM Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua said the regional government has enough resources to continue relief operations while coordinating with the national government for additional support if needed.
Relief distribution under the SAM-KITS Program also continued on Friday, with food packs and other assistance delivered to flood victims in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte.
Authorities urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain alert, follow evacuation advisories, and monitor official weather and disaster updates as heavy rains continue.
