FLASHFLOOD brought about by heavy downpour has affected 18 families or 86 individuals in Medina town Tuesday morning.
Raul Soriano of the Medina Municipal Risk Reduction Disaster Management Office said the torrential rains occurred from 8 am to 11:30 am and was followed by a brief tornado strike in the mountainous part of town.
There were also four houses made of light materials that were swept away and destroyed by the floodwaters, Soriano added.
The other two houses also made of light material were partially damaged he added.
Town mayor Donato Chan has ordered the Municipal Social Work Office to assist, evaluate the damages, and prepare the assistance to the survivors.
It was learned that the flood destroyed the pipeline in the hinterland villages of the town which cut off its water supply.
The most affected barangays were Duka, Purtulin, North Poblacion, and South Poblacion, Soriano said.
Soriano said there was also a landslide along the highway in Sitio Mimbulo in Barangay Tambagan.
“Packed food has already been distributed to the survivors,” said Soriano.
