IN a forum entitled ”Popularizing the science of the IPCC’s report on the latest Science of the Climate Crisis,” the Philippine Movement for Climate Justice (PMCJ) conducted a panel discussion on Wednesday.
The activity discussed the findings of the Report with regard to the Philippine government’s response to it. Participants from other environmental concern groups provided input for identifying actions in addressing the impacts of the incoming climate emergency.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change. As stated in its website, www.ipcc.ch, the IPCC was created to provide policymakers with regular scientific assessments on climate change, its implications, and potential future risks, as well as to put forward adaptation and mitigation options.
The Philippines is one of the Asian countries which are annually beset by natural calamities like typhoons and flooding, and government efforts to meet these are deemed to be wanting. Calls have been made by various non-governmental organizations for the government to step up in its effort to combat climate change.
