THE rising Bonbon Ball Club (BBC), now making waves in the local hoops scene, will crown its pre-Christmas league champion tonight, Oct. 24, at the newly refurbished Bonbon barangay gym.
“It’s the moment of truth kon kinsa atong pinaka the best team in the month of October league,” said BBC president Dennis Bacala, who remained cool and composed despite his squad’s heartbreaking semifinal exit.
Echo Team 5, skippered by Bonbon Kagawad Irvin Paul Paasa and reinforced by the youthful quartet of Naguita, JM Gacusan, Escobido and Pactolerin, dominated the Oliver Bacud-powered Team 1, 64-54, to earn a finals berth against the gritty Team 2.
The championship game is set for 7:30 pm, following the battle for third place.
Team 2 relied on teamwork and the clutch shooting of Concord Jhun Timkang to edge Delta Team 4, 61-58, in a grueling semifinal that showcased cohesion over individual brilliance.
“Dala s’werte sab kay katorse among labaw na-apsan napanas pa, unya balos-balos lang sa fourth quarter,” said Team 2 guard Jao del Puerto, whose backcourt trio with Timkang and Enerio outplayed Team 4’s inside powerhouse Bacala and scoring ace Phil Manahan.
