DOH: No kid rushed to hospital in Caraga due to deworming

BUTUAN City––Over 400 thousand children took antiparasitic tablets in Caraga but no one was hospitalized due to side effects unlike in other regions, the health department yesterday .
The DOH however said nine students in Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Norte suffered abdominal pains, fever, and allergies following the mass deworming campaign.
“But there is nothing to worry about it because they were not hospitalized. Some were only brought to rural health clinics near schools for observation. In Caraga, the simultaneous deworming campaign was generally successful,” said Dr. Jose Llacuna Jr., DOH director for Caraga.
He said some 400,617 school children took the deworming tablets given by DOH in six cities and 65 municipalities in the fice Caraga provinces. The figure represents 87.6 percent of the elementary school population om the region.
Llacuna said the students who complained of the side effects were from Tandag and Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur, and in barangays Malpoc and Lumboyan in Buenavista town, Agusan del Norte.
