FORMER Iligan City Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz has denied rumors that Del Monte Philippines will be shutting down its operations in the city and in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
In a radio statement over the weekend, Cruz said he contacted his brother, who works in the company's human resources department, and was told the rumors are “not true.”
Cruz said the confusion may stem from the recent closure of Del Monte Agrinanas Corporation in Talakag, Bukidnon.
That company reportedly shut down due to rising costs and filed for bankruptcy, leading to an estimated 5,000 employees losing their jobs.
Cruz clarified that Del Monte Agrinanas Corporation is not related to Del Monte Philippines.
