WEBSTER defines a weekday as “any day of the week except Sunday or now usually except Saturday and Sunday.”
You might say no! I have my day off on Mondays and Tuesdays. You’re referring to work shifts or work schedules. Technically you’re right. Different industries have different work shifts or work schedules. Generally speaking, we all agree with Webster on the workday definition.
Now let’s deconstruct each day of your working week.
Manic is the most common description of Mondays, just like the 80s song. It’s manic in every way. You rush because you have to pull yourself out of bed. And traffic is always slow-moving because everyone is in a rush.
It doesn’t stop there. Office transactions are also in a frenzy, especially in banks. It is usually full of clients, phones ringing, and emails bursting.
It’s a different story in supermarkets and malls. Mondays are slow days which makes it convenient for a grocery run.
Tuesdays breeze through like these never happened. Nothing much happens except that transactions are regular. Maybe that’s why there’s not much of an adjective that describes this day of the week.
Wednesday is known as Hump Day because it’s the middle of the workweek. The dictionary definition states, “The expression figures Wednesday, the middle of the workweek, as the hump people get over to coast into the weekend.” It serves as a break from the last two working days, and looking forward to the weekend. Once it’s Wednesday, the weekend is not that far.
Thursdays are usually lean days in banking and even in telecom companies. We’ve been dissecting Thursdays and still could not find concrete reasons. Maybe because people put off their transactions and wait for Friday, or they might have done everything for the last three days.
It’s also better to hold meetings on Thursdays because people are not breathing on your neck. You have more time to discuss.
Fridays will always be known as TGIF or Thank God it’s Friday! It’s as manic as Mondays, but since it’s almost the weekend, people feel light and excited. People are perky. Once the day is over, Friday nights kick off the start of the weekend.
