Dave Achondo I AM glad since the curfew has been implemented and enforced again in Macasandig. As I write this, I have yet to see minors out and roaming past 10 pm here. But I cannot say that the same can be seen throughout the city. I see kids out at night in other barangays. It is commendable that Macasandig managed to do it. So why can’t others do it, too? Barangay officials should try their best to remind their constituents that there is a curfew hour for minors, and to inform them that parents can be penalized if they failed to watch over their kids. Minors have no business being out in the wee hours. What do they have to gain for being out in the first place? None. A few columns ago, I wrote about online games and how some members of the city council we’re proposing to strictly regulate it. I could only assume that they planned to control the game from spreading even further. A ban is not the right way to attack the issue, and it can’t be done. I want to point out again how outrageous and stupid the proposal is especially when it is being proposed by someone who obviously has little or no knowledge of the matter he is talking about. I pointed out that there are so many pressing issues to deal with, and it would be best for them to simply think of something else other than regulating online games such as “Dota 2” that has been around before he or she was elected to the city council. Here are my suggestions if you want to prevent a repeat of the Bukidnon incident when minors refused to go home because they were out playing online games (Dota 2) allegedly for a week, and had to be “rescued” by the police. Strengthen the existing curfew for minors, and punish the parents for not doing their part in watching over their children. It is also the responsibility of Internet cafe owners to implement the curfew by not allowing minors past 10 pm. They should also bar student in uniforms (college or not) from playing during school hours. Internet cafe owners who allow this should be penalized. The stubborn ones should lose their business permits. The point is, you should only regulate the activities of minors at night but not the game. No matter how hard you push for it, it will never happen.
