A day after New Year's Day, heavy rains damaged the water supply source of Cagayan de Oro Bulk Water, Inc. (COBI), the primary bulk water supplier of Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD).
At least 12 barangays experienced water service shortages, resulting in low pressure to no water flow.
The affected areas include Lumbia, Canitoan, Pagatpat, Upper Carmen, Patag, Bulua, Iponan, parts of Opol town, Upper Macasandig, Camaman-an, Lapasan, and portions of Gusa.
COBI reported that heavy downpour compromised the raw water supply source, causing high turbidity levels that affected intake screens.
COBI is conducting cleaning and de-clogging operations once water flow conditions improve.
COWD is maximizing production wells and augmenting water delivery through seven water tankers, including four from partner cooperatives and the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Priority is given to areas with large populations, such as Bulua.
