THE Cagayan de Oro City Water District (COWD) released a statement yesterday, September 21, assuring the public that its water supply remains safe to drink, following reports of stomach-related illnesses in the city.
The COWD stated that it continues to comply with the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW).
According to the statement, the COWD’s laboratory conducts daily physical, chemical, and microbiological tests on its main water sources. The latest test results show no signs of contamination.
“We reiterate our commitment to provide a safe and clean drinking water supply to the public,” the statement reads in part.
The COWD will be conducting an emergency press conference today, September 22, at the water facility’s main office in Corrales Street.
The water district addressed public concerns about occasional murky water, explaining that turbidity is often caused by sediments at the bottom of pipes being stirred up during repair or maintenance activities.
This is resolved through flushing after pipeline isolation and weekly scheduled flushing in various parts of the service area.
The COWD also reminded consumers and establishments with water tanks or reservoirs to regularly clean and disinfect them to ensure the quality of their stored water.
For any water quality concerns, the COWD encouraged customers to send a private message with their account name and contact number to facilitate immediate testing and action.
