SHOWING their hunger for competitive sports, all 15 barangays in the quiet municipality of Kinoguitan came on Saturday's opening of the Paglaum Cup Sports Festival 2024 at the covered court of Barangay Esperanza, Kinoguitan, Misamis Oriental.
Along with their respective Zone leaders and beautiful muses, the 15 barangays of Poblacion, Beray, Bolisong, Buko, Kalitian, Calubo, Campo, Kagumahan, Kitotok, Panabol, Salicapawan, Salubsob, Suarez, Sumalag and host Esperanza hoisted their banners as they took part in the colorful parade that enlivened the streets of Kinoguitan known for its bountiful crops and picturesque boulevard by the sea facing the captivating mountains of Camiguin island.
“Dugay-dugay gyod namingaw ang Kinoguitan kay kada fiesta ra adunay mahitabo nga sports competition. Pasalamat mi’g dako kay adunay Paglaum Sports Program nga makadasig sa mga kabatan-onan,” Barangay Esperanza Chair Lauro Go told Gold Star Daily.
Paglaum Sports caretaker Chrysostom ‘Tammy’ Cailing said that inter-barangay tournaments in basketball and volleyball will take place, every weekend, at Barangay Esperanza covered court for a month-long duration.
“Mao ra sab ang kalipay sa mga kabatan-onan nga adunay regular sports activities nga mahitabo sa among dapit kay kini dakong tabang aron ilang atensyon ma-divert kontra sa mga bisyo,” said the hard-working Kinoguitan SK chairwoman Jovi Frances Chee Lofranco, who’s been consistently hands-on in spearheading youth-oriented activities in Kinoguitan.
The town’s incumbent vice mayor Tomas Zarate and former vice mayor Ryan Pabellan also graced the opening ceremony spiced up by TikTok challenge gamely contested by the muses.
Gingoog City Councilor Roy ‘3K’ Aniscal, accompanied by barangay Kagawad Junrey Cadano, also came to witness the Kinoguitan Sports Festival opening unfolding.
“I’ve been a sportsman my whole life even nga edaran ug busy na sab sa politika gadula gihapon kita sa basketball. Duol ra man ang Gingoog sayang sab kon dili kita maka dalikyat sa Kinoguitan aron paghatag sa atong suporta,” Aniscal later told Gold Star Daily.
