By CONG B. CORRALES Associate Editor THE CITY Information Office has expressed concern over a misperception that a website is reporting on their behalf. City hall spokesperson Maricel Rivera told Gold Star Daily yesterday that she was alarmed when her contacts started asking her about the veracity of a report about a red alert in the city as reported in the website www.aboutcaga yandeoro.com. In the report, “CDO Under Red Alert Due to Warnings of Terrorist Attacks,” the blog site said the city and the entire northern Mindanao has been put on red alert after the Police Regional Office-10 received reports the the city and the region has been included as a target of the Maute terrorist group. It was authored by one Jeff Badal. “’Though there is a possibility that the information sent may be a hoax, however, according to Cagayan de Oro City Police Office spokesperson Chief Insp. Mardy Hortillosa II, such kind of threats shouldn’t just be ignored,” the report reads in part. Camp Alagar placed the region on full alert status after about 50 New People’s Army occupied a section of the highway in Barangay Pahindong in Medina town, set up a roadblock, and then threatened a barangay chairman at around 6:30 am Tuesday. Rivera said the police are the official source on threats to security. However, she added, the domain name of the website where the red alert report was posted created a misconception that city hall owns the website. “Daghan man gud nanawag nako about sa report. Wala mi labot ana nga website. Wala gani ko kaila ana nila,” she said. Rivera said city hall maintains some pages on Facebook which are managed and maintained by the different city hall departments. “(But the website) is not managed by us. The official pages of the City Information Office are ‘Cagayan de Oro City Philippines’ and ‘Mayor Oscar S. Moreno.’ Our group pages (on social media) are ‘CDOinfonet’ and ‘Cagayan de Oro City,’” Rivera said.
