Capitol commemorates 24th anniversary of Cebupac flight 387

THE provincial government of Misamis Oriental today commemorated the 24th anniversary of the Cebu Pacific 387 plane crash in the boundaries of Claveria and Gingoog City.

During the commemoration, Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano along with Gingoog City Mayor Erick Cañosa and Claveria Mayor Myraluna Abrogar-Salvaleon officially opened the Misamis Oriental Tourism Complex and Botanical Garden’s Information Center.

Along with the opening of the Information Center, Emano with the new Miss Kuyamis 2022 Annabelle Mcdonelle planted Oolong tea just right below the foot of the shrine where they also showcased an edible garden.

It was the year 1998 when the Cebu Pacific Flight 387 crashed into Mt. Lumot of Barangay Lunutan, Claveria Misamis Oriental.

Emano remembers how challenging the road going to the said shrine and now it was paved.

“Every time I looked at developments, new resorts, new restaurants, you can see that development is already coming to Claveria,” Emano said.

Emano thank both Salvaleon and Cañosa for the tourism development of both Gingoog and Claveria.

The income of the said Cebu Pacific Shrine that is now developed as Misamis Oriental Tourism Complex and Botanical Garden goes directly to the Misamis Oriental provincial government.

Every peso that will be collected from the entrance fee, 40 centavos from it will go to the province, while the other 40 centavos will be shared by both Gingoog and Claveria and the 20 centavos will go back to the host barangay ― Civoleg.

Meanwhile, Emano reminded those who wish to visit the tourist sites of Claveria and other sites of Misor to observe proper health protocol where he also assured that sites such as the shrine, its facility is compliant to protect their guests from Covid.

Salvaleon of Claveria extended his sympathies to the relatives of 104 victims of the plane crash 24 years ago today.

“Sa 104 ka mga biktima, sa mga pamilya, hinaot nga naka-move on na ang tanan ug hinaot nga nakahatag mig kalipay o paghupay man sa inyong kasing-kasing sa atong ginahimo nga (komemorasyon) sa matag tuig (every February 2),” Salvaleon said.
