GINGOOG City Mayor Erick G. Cañosa has ordered the preemptive evacuation of residents in every barangay living near rivers or in landslide-prone areas.

The order was issued due to the potential for flooding and landslides from Typhoon Tino, which is expected to make landfall this afternoon in Eastern Samar.

Mayor Cañosa personally handed over the directive to Marlon Pajo, head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), during his visit to the city’s Emergency Response Center this morning.

In a statement posted on social media, Cañosa confirmed the measure: “We are currently at the 24/7 Emergency Response Center and are currently directing CDRRM Officer Pajo to implement a preemptive evacuation of low-lying areas in preparation for the threat posed by Severe Tropical Storm Tino.”

Gingoog City is known as one of the flood and landslide-vulnerable areas in the eastern part of Misamis Oriental.

Mayor Cañosa also called on all residents to cooperate fully in carrying out the preemptive evacuation to ensure public safety.
