GINGOOG City — “We have a greater task to promote and establish loyalty and trustworthiness — and of course, the dedication to help our beloved city prosper and progress,” City Mayor Erick G. Cañosa said Thursday morning, Nov. 6, during the opening of the 3rd Gingoog Scouting Committee “Pasiga: A Jamboree in the Mist,” held at Civoleg in Barangay Lunotan.
Mayor Cañosa officially opened the event and led the lighting of the jamboree urn, joined by Vice Mayor Thaddeus Lugod, Schools Division Superintendent Edgardo Abanil of the Department of Education–Gingoog, local scouting officials, city leaders, and more than a thousand scouts from various public and private schools.
The mayor congratulated the organizing team, including the BSP Gingoog Council and the city’s Schools Division, for the successful opening of the four-day event, which runs from Nov. 6 to 9.
“We are happy to witness our 3rd Pasiga 2025 scouting event. We remember that we started Pasiga in Gingoog City three years ago. Truly, we shine in our scouting events,” Cañosa said.
In his message, Schools Division Superintendent Abanil challenged scouts to uphold dignity and respect.
“Respect each other as you would want to be respected,” he told the scouts.
“Every activity is not just for fun. It is an opportunity to learn, grow, and serve. Work together. Show discipline, integrity, and courage in every decision and task entrusted to you.”
BSP Gingoog Division Coordinator and 2nd Vice Chair Mario Endrina said the Pasiga symbolizes continued enthusiasm and commitment among the youth.
“Once we are scouts, we are always scouts. The ideals are in our hearts, and the spirit of scouting continues to grow,” he said.
City Councilor Evelyn Cañosa, chair of the City Council’s education committee, encouraged scouts to keep participating in future scouting activities.
“Scouting teaches children respect, unity, and teamwork — values that build both character and community,” she said.
